Undergraduate study programs at Sports Education Faculty

 

 
Study program Physical Education
Physical Education teachers have been prepared at Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education (LAPE) since the foundation of the Lithuanian Physical Education Institute.
 
The goal of the study program of Physical Education is to prepare skilled Physical Education teachers through science, and active dialogue with Lithuanian science and education organizations to prepare high quality teachers of Physical Education. This includes the development of: the capability to recognize and solve the problems that a Physical Education teacher might encounter in his/her professional career; an understanding of the pedagogical, social, ethical, political and environmental aspects of the Physical Education teacher profession; conceptualization and realization of constant needs for professional competence improvement /change.
 
The goal is to prepare, plan and control the program of Physical Education and  its realization; create productive Physical Education environment to optimize the teaching/learning process; overcome the existing teaching stereotypes by adapting to social and psychological changes; analyze education results and provide feedback to pupils according to a chosen theoretical model; correctly measure  and assess pupils’ knowledge, skills, and physical fitness changes; design adapted Physical Education programs for the disabled and groups with special-needs.
Study program Physical Education and Dance

Physical Education (Dance) teachers have been prepared at Lithuanian Academy of Physical Education (LAPE) since 2001.

The aim of the undergraduate studies programe is to prepare skilled PE and dance teachers through the means of science, study and active dialogue providing general university education and cooperating  with Lithuanian science and education organizations who would be able to: independently recognize and solve the problems related to Physical Education  and Dance teacher career, perceive social, pedagogical, ethnic, political and environmental aspects significant to the regalia of Physical Education  and Dance teacher; perceive and realize constant need for professional competence improvement and change.

On completion of the programme, students acquire knowledge and skills related to:  philosophical, social, cultural, educational aspects of physical education and physical activity; human anatomy, general and sport physiology, prevention of sport injuries; social, cognitive and physical child and adolescent development, condition testing; movement biomechanics,on the basis of movement education (walking, running, jumping, throwing, etc.) building of skills in traditional sports, dance, and unconventional sports; motivation of pupils everyday physical activity and habit formation; management and planning of pupil and other age group recreational physical activity; basics of research methodology, IT, and foreign languages; dance peculiarities in secondary schools, different dance style teaching methods.
Study program Sports Coaching
Sports coaches have been trained at the Academy since 1968, extramural studies have been organized since 2002.
 
General aims of the University study program “Sports Coaching“ are as follows: to provide knowledge and abilities necessary for work in the fields related with coaching of athletes; to develop the need to be interested in the most up-to-date achievements of sports science, modern tendencies of athletes training technologies; to develop wide erudition, creative and critical thinking, ability to react dynamically to actual environment challenges; to develop ability to maintain professional competence within the whole period of working activity while improving qualification at the same time.
 
The faculty has an active graduate program. Graduate students are accepted both for the M.A. degree and for the Ph.D. The Postgraduate Diploma (M.A.) in Education Science is a two year program and permits three specializations: a) Educology Master, b) Sports Master, c) Administration of Business and Management.
Study program Social Pedagogy
The aim of program Social Pedagogy is to prepare highly qualified social pedagogue for social work, having sufficiently good professional competence, capable to work out difficult tasks while communicating with clients (pupils, parents, pedagogues, various institutions and etc.). In this way to improve social education and stability of the society, its integration into the European culture, science and the whole social welfare of the country.
 
Principle objectives of the programme:  Provide general undergraduate education; provide basic knowledge of humanitarian and social education for students, that would help them realize and evaluate political, social and economical environment; provide basic knowledge of educology and specific knowledge of social pedagogy, as well as to form special skills of students with the help of active methods of teaching, that would make it easier for them to determine and solve the problems of social environment taking into consideration peculiarities of social development in Lithuania; form permanent needs of learning, discovering skills and gifts of a student, who could assure and realize his/her knowledge and skills in unique level of competence in ever changing conditions.
Study program Tourism and Sport Management
The aim of Tourism and Sport Management programme is to prepare highly qualified tourism and/or sport managers through education, studies and active dialog, collaboration with various Lithuanian tourism and sport organizations, and autonomous bodies and consequently to contribute to a well-rounded education of the society, its social stability and integration into European culture, science, studies and economic improvement in the country and Kaunas county.
 
Aims of the programme:  Provide general university education; provide general knowledge, abilities and skills of humanitarian and social education which would enable to assess political, social and economic environment; provide general knowledge of management and business administration and specific knowledge of economics, marketing, finance and accounting and to develop skills by employing methods of active learning which would allow to determine and successfully solve problems of tourism and sport organization activities, considering the specific development of Lithuanian economy and the situation and perspectives of the common European Union labour market; shape a need for continuous learning, revealing dispositions and talents of the student which would ensure a stable level of competence to realize the acquired knowledge, abilities and skills in the continuously changing environment both inside and outside the organization.
